Experiencing
the Joy of Connecting With Our Children
The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing
with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the
many joys of parenting. By mindfully attending to our children,
both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically
separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them
and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos. This makes us a
better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.
To
facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent
publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly
newsletter, mindful
parenting
verses and commentaries. The Mindful Parent website
also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful
parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.
In
the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage
you to
submit a mindful parenting experience through verse,
commentary, and imagery to share with others. We believe that
through our collective experience, we can help each other develop
a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice.

The Daily Sip: Create
A Cue
Cues to mindful parenting surround us. Many of tips
that appear in this column look to everyday cues as tools
to help us open awareness to the presence of our child in our lives.
While most of these cues exist independent of anything we might do,
we can also take a hand in creating a cue.
Today, place one of
your rings on a different finger or double up two rings. If
you do not wear rings or are concerned that a ring may slide
off, then modify something else that you wear. Consider buckling
your belt in the reverse direction, or wearing your watch or bracelet
on a different hand. Make some slight change that only
you are likely to notice, but one you are likely to notice throughout
the day.
This little change
Brings my child to me
When your thoughts are cued today by the
reminder you've set in motion, take a moment and slow down.
Breathe deeply and visualize your child embracing you around
the cue. Perhaps his or her fingers wrap around your hand
or rub your neck, or your child hugs you around your waist.
If you are with your child, then allow the cue to open your deeply
to the presence of your child.
Smile as you connect
more deeply with your child.
