Mindful Parenting is a contemplative practice through which we become more mindful of our children and, in doing so, experience a more joyful life.
The Mindful Parent is an organization
devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in
which to enhance the many joys of parenting. By mindfully attending
to our children, both when we are physically present with them and
when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense
of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.
This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital
human being.
To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting,
The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly
newsletter,
mindful parenting
verses and commentaries. The Mindful
Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and
supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting
experiences.
In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting
community, we encourage you to
submit a mindful parenting
experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.
We believe that through our collective experience, we can help
each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful
parenting practice.

Sitting and Standig Upright: Open To Your Child's Boundless Love
For
most of us, our posture could be much better. This is especially
the case when we are sitting. Too often the body hunches, caving
in the shoulders and chest. As a result, our breathing is restricted
(if we are breathing at all) and the energy swirling around and within
our being is blocked.
It's no surprise that yoga, Pilates, and
other practices that involve stretching are becoming so popular.
Among their many, many benefits, spiritual, emotional, and
physical, one core feature is that the body is opened and the breath
is freed.
Adjusting my posture
I send my thoughts to my child
Whose
love is as open
As the sea
Today, when you find yourself hunched over the computer
screen, or desk or table, or walking with shoulders collapsed and
a sunken chest, adjust your posture. Doing so, you will
expand your lungs and be able to inhale more deeply. Feel the
rush of air filling your lungs. Allow your belly to expand.
As
you adjust your posture and breathe, open awareness to the presence
of your child in your life. Your child may be inches away or
in an unknown place. Sense your child breathing freely and fully
and appreciate your child's potential to feel and express love as
boundless as the sea.
You have the same capacity.
