The Mindful Parent
The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.

In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage you to submit a mindful parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.  We believe that through our collective experience, we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice.  Click here to learn more about making a submssion.  We thank everyone who has contributed or is considering making this very compassionate contribution.

The Daily Sip:
The Computer Keyboard and Your Child

The computer keyboard has become fairly integral to our daily lives.  Whether on a computer at work, traversing the Internet, or catching up on e-mails, our fingers hover just above the keyboard, our eyes glancing down as needed while we peck away.

Our computer time may be enjoyable and it may be stressful.  In both cases, we may find ourselves absorbed.  Our bodies begin to hunch over, our breathing become shallow, and we begin to feel tight inside.  The keyboards offer us a wonderful opportunity to wake up into the moment, expand our bodies, and open awareness to the presence of our children on our lives.

Today, while on the computer (perhaps now) sit back in your chair and place your hands to your side.  Shake loose your hands and fingers.  Take a moment and examine the keyboard.  On it are all the letters in your child's name.  With your eyes, slowly look to each of the letters spelling out your child's name.  As your eyes meet each letter, take a slow deep breath and visualize your beautiful child.  Listen for your child reciting aloud his or her name.  If you have more than one child, repeat the exercise for each, or plan to do it for another child a little later on.

When you finish, close your eyes and breathe deeply.  Before you return to what you had been doing, gently touch each key spelling out your child's name.  Then touch the keys spelling "I LOVE YOU."

Remember, your child is always with you.
