The Mindful Parent
The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.

In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage you to submit a mindful parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.  We believe that through our collective experience, we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice.  Click here to learn more about making a submssion.  We thank everyone who has contributed or is considering making this very compassionate contribution.

The Daily Sip:  The Space In Between Letters
And Your Child

Your child fills space.  Physically, you child's body displaces a certain amount of otherwise "empty" space.  Emotionally, your child consumes mental space in your mind and heart.  And spiritually, your child and the love emanating from within your child's essence, fills the void.  At the same time, with every movement, your child creates space.  Where once your child stood, there becomes space.  And into where there was space, your child moves.

A mindful parenting cue that is especially available to you is rejoicing in the spaces you find when you read.  Like the spaces into which your child moves, and the spaces that open when your child moves, this space is largely ignored as we focus our attention on the letters, not the spaces surrounding them.

Today, (and even now) as you read text, pause to absorb the empty space that you see.  Observe the spaces between each letter, the larger space between each word, and the even larger space above and below each line of text.

As you come to realize the extent of the white space, inhale slowly and deeply and then exhale into it.  Take a moment to pause and enter a state of calm.  Imagine your breath swirling in and around the characters on the screen or page.  As you open awareness to this space, sense the world before your child was conceived.  Then, open awareness to the presence of your (space consuming) child in your life.
