Experiencing the Joy of Connecting With Our Children
The
Mindful Parent
The Mindful Parent is an
organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers
ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting. By mindfully
attending to our children, both when we are physically present with
them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance
our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the
cosmos. This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and
a more vital human being.
To facilitate a more mindful approach
to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in
its bi-weekly
newsletter, mindful parenting
verses and commentaries.
The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages
and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful
parenting experiences.
In the spirit of developing a mindful
parenting community, we encourage you to
submit a mindful
parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share
with others. We believe that through our collective experience,
we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful
parenting practice.

The Daily Sip:
Music
And Your Child
There are many wonderful songs that can bring
to mind touching memories and images of your child. They include
the lullabies you listened to when your child was a newborn,
the children's songs your child grew up (is growing up) listening
to, and those that you sang to you child and taught your child
(and sing and teach today). They also include the many
wonderful and touching songs that pertain to children and parenthood.
Some examples include: "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on The
Roof, and "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables.
Today, scan
your memory for one such song and sing or hum it. As you do, open
awareness to your child. If you are together, reach for your
child as you experience the tug of the song's sentiment.
If you are separated from your child, imagine your child -- where
he or she is, and what he or she may be doing. Try to keep the
song's sentiment in your mind as you visualize your child and sense
your child's presence.
Music has the wonderful quality of touching
us deeply. Certain songs arouse ancient memories and feelings.
When beautful music is associated with our child, its recollection
can move us to a deep place of calm and joy.
If you thought of
a song that you think other parents might find touching, please let
us know. You can click on the "comments" link below or send
us an e-mail to info@themindfulparent.org. Thank you.
