The Morning Sip: Walk Slowly And Your Child Moves In A Different Light
 
Our natural rhythm -- the pace at which we walk and breathe, for example -- has become deeply ingrained.  We grow so accustomed to this rhythm that we take it for granted.  We forget about it.
 
Are you aware of your breathing right now?  If not, wake up and breathe slowly and deeply.  You probably find that you have altered your natural breathing rhythm.
 
When you change your breathing or walking rhythm (to take just two examples) , an internal readjustment takes place.  During that readjustment the "external" world takes on a different form.
 
Today, when you are with your child, deliberately walk slower (if you are sitting, get up and walk around more slowly than you usually walk).  Focus awareness on your slower pace.
 
Your perspective will shift and you will see your child in a different light.  The difference can be powerful.

The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.
 
To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.
