The Morning Sip: Father's Day:  Allow Yourself To Be Showered With Love

Today is Father's Day.  This can be a day when the whole family becomes a bit more thoughtful -- a bit more mindful.  Children are making and buying gifts and cards.  Wives and partners and friends are working to make the day a bit more special.  Grandparents and other relatives a generation up experience a special joy.

As parents, it is a wonderful thing when our child's actions and gestures are explicitly directed toward making us happy and showing love and appreciation.  It fills us with joy.

The practice of mindful parenting opens awareness to the source of that joy.  Joyfulness abounds even when our day to day lives are not quite so "perfect" as Father's Day.  Today, let us be mindful of the day's events.  We may come to see it in a different light.  If we do, we are able to bring something new and remarkable with us into our daily routine.  Special days like these are filled with loose gemstones.

         My wonderful child
         Fills me with love
Where was the love before my child?

Recite this verse when your child does something nice for you today.  Of course, there is no answer to the question, but pondering it opens awareness to the heart of your child's love and to your connection with your child.

Above all, during those times when your child is taking care to shower you with affection, be there to be showered upon.  The following verse can help open you to these wonderful moments.

               With every breath I take
               My child's love flows

The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.

In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage you to submit a mindful parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.  We believe that through our collective experience, we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice. Click here to learn more about making a submssion.  We thank everyone who has contributed or is considering making this very compassionate contribution.
