The Daily Sip:  Listening To Your Child's Voice And The Numbers You See
 
Remember when your child was learning to count?  Or perhaps your child now is learning to count.  For ourselves, we may take counting for granted.
 
 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 -- 6 -- 7 -- 8 -- 9 -- 10
 
There is magic to our child's learning and counting is a very special part of that process.  While we may not always be so aware of what our child learns in school and of our child's day to day progress, we are likely to be especially involved in their learning to count.
 
Can you hear your child's sweet voice articulating the numbers?
 
 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 -- 6 -- 7 -- 8 -- 9 -- 10
 
Did they get stuck on or always skip a number?  Was their pronunciation memorable?
 
Perhaps your child is learning to count now, perhaps they have not yet learned to count, or perhaps they learned to count what seems a million years ago.
 
Today, let numbers -- your use of numbers in calculations, your sighting of numbers on signs or in reading materials, your hearing of numbers in conversation -- open your awareness to your child, wherever they may be, and the wonders of their development.
 
Try to hear your child's voice reciting the numbers, even if for a few moments.  Breathe deeply and smile as you visualize your child's development from birth to today.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.
