Sip: Teach Your Child
To Slow Down And Dwell In Stillness
Mindful
parenting is about connecting with your child. Today's mindful
parenting tip will suggest an extremely powerful, yet simple technique
to connect deeply with your child.
All too often the time
we spend with our child, regardless of whether it is enjoyable or
difficult, easy or stressful, is spent in motion. Our minds
are in motion. Our hands are in motion. Our mouths
are in motion. It is as if the bottoms of our feet are three
inches high in the air. Today, let's touch down and experience
the stillness and quiet we so often miss.
When you have a little
quite time (or as quiet as it gets) share with your child that
time goes so fast but that you know a way for it to slow down and
you want to take a few moments together to slow down time and
really be together.
Sit opposite your child, reach out each
hand, and take your child's hands into yours. Together,
breathe deeply maintaining slow, full, belly breathing.
Gaze softly into your child's eyes and smile. For
the next several minutes sit quietly, gazing into each others
eyes. Just smiles -- no thoughts, no talking.
If your child is young and speaks, just smile and lovingly place
your finger on your lips. This is really your time to connect
with your child.
When the talking and thinking fades, you
will communicate on the level of pure love.
