The Daily Sip:  Recreate A Beautiful Memory In The Here And Now

Isn't it nice to remember the many special times you have shared with your child?  Perhaps it was singing certain songs together?  Did you dance around the room to music holding your baby close to your chest?  Did you watch your child sleep snug in bed?

While all of life is filled with such moments, and they continually spring anew, as your child grows some of these special moments will fade.  Oftentimes, the warm and joyful state associated with these moments lingers and we take pleasure reflecting on the past.
All too often we allow such beautiful moments and feelings to forever reside in the past.

Today, pick one such past moment and introduce it to the here and now.

Do this by recreating the moment.  Find the music to which you danced or sang and play it.  Start singing with your child or dancing with them.   You may need to sing this song over the phone or dance with a slightly larger child, but that's okay.  How long has it been since you marveled over your sleeping child, or your child engaging in some special activity?  If your child still does it, observe it again.

Some of these moments will require your child's participation.  Others may not.  Pick the one that feels right.

While recreating the moment, consider the two times -- then and now.  At the deepest level, has anything really changed?  Whatever may feel missing is waiting in the present moment to be reclaimed.

Sign up for The Mindful Parent newsletter and receive information and tips on mindful parenting. It's easy, free, and fulfilling.
The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.

In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage you to submit a mindful parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.  We believe that through our collective experience, we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice. Click here to learn more about making a submssion.  We thank everyone who has contributed or is considering making this very compassionate contribution.
