Mindful Parenting is a contemplative practice through which we become more mindful of our children and, in doing so, experience a more joyful life.
The Mindful Parent is an organization
devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in
which to enhance the many joys of parenting. By mindfully attending
to our children, both when we are physically present with them and
when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense
of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.
This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital
human being.
To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting,
The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly
newsletter,
mindful parenting
verses and commentaries. The Mindful
Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and
supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting
experiences.
In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting
community, we encourage you to
submit a mindful parenting
experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.
We believe that through our collective experience, we can help
each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful
parenting practice.

The Daily Sip: Open
Awareness To
The Beating Of Your Child's Heart
The practice of
mindful parenting brings our child close, even when he or she is
far away. Sometimes, our child may be close to us physically,
and still be very far away. When we tap into our bodies,
and awaken to the vitality and aliveness of our bodies, our awareness
expands. We become closer to our child, to ourselves, to
other living beings, and to the cosmos.
Today, if you are in
physical contact with your child, place your ear to your child's chest.
Do so in a quiet place and listen deeply to your child's beating heart.
Breathe deeply and feel your belly expand. Become fully present
to the extraordinary magic contained in the moment. Your child's heart
is always beating. As you listen, consider that there was
a time, before your child was born, when there was no beating sound,
and that one day there will come a time when this beautiful heart
will cease to beat. As you lift your head, and the sound
softens, listen for the echo of your child's beating heart.
My child's heartbeat
Echoes
across the cosmos
As you go about your day, you will hear rhythmic sounds
and other sounds that bring to mind your child's heartbeat.
When you do, recite the above verse, and bring to mind your extraordinary
child.
The depth of your connection to your child is as deep
and true as the sound of your child's beating heart.
