The Mindful Parent
The Mindful Parent is an organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting.  By mindfully attending to our children, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the cosmos.  This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and a more vital human being.

To facilitate a more mindful approach to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in its bi-weekly newsletter, mindful parenting verses and commentaries.  The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful parenting experiences.

In the spirit of developing a mindful parenting community, we encourage you to submit a mindful parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share with others.  We believe that through our collective experience, we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful parenting practice.  Click here to learn more about making a submssion.  We thank everyone who has contributed or is considering making this very compassionate contribution.

The Daily Sip:  Color And Your Child

There are occasions when we spend a great deal of time with our child.  On other occasions, we may be separated physically from our child for brief periods or for extended periods of time.  The practice of mindful parenting opens awareness to our child, both when we are physically present with them and when we are physically separated.

As we all know, there may be times that our child is inches away, perhaps even calling to us, and we (our thoughts) are miles away.  At other times we may be separated by a great distance, yet our hearts are with our child.

Today, allow color to open awareness to the presence of your child in your life.  Allow this opening of awareness to occur even if you are with your child.  It is a source of great joy to realize the forever deepening of connection that can take place between you and your child.

To help with this, bring to mind a color that you find soothing.  Breathe deeply and slowly as you allow this hue to saturate your mind, your being.  Sense it soaking into your body and easing tension.  Relax your shoulders -- soften your belly.  Smile.

Now, imagine your child amid this color in an unusual setting.  For example, if the color was blue you may imagine your child running through a field of fresh blue grass.  Keep the imagery comfortable.  If the color was green, you may visualize your child resting on his or her back looking up at a green sky.  Ponder this imagery for a few moments.  Now you will be ready when the time comes.

Try to become a little more aware of the wondrous colors that surround you today.  When awareness opens to them, make note of the different colors as you see them.  When you become aware of the soothing color you selected, call to mind the imagery involving your child.  Breathe fully and relax your shoulders.  No need to think about anything.  Just soak in the sensation.
