Experiencing the Joy of Connecting With Our Children
The
Mindful Parent
The Mindful Parent is an
organization devoted to sharing with parents and other child caregivers
ways in which to enhance the many joys of parenting. By mindfully
attending to our children, both when we are physically present with
them and when we are physically separated from them, we can enhance
our sense of connection to them and, in turn, our connection to the
cosmos. This makes us a better parent, a happier person, and
a more vital human being.
To facilitate a more mindful approach
to parenting, The Mindful Parent publishes on its website, and in
its bi-weekly
newsletter, mindful parenting
verses and commentaries.
The Mindful Parent website also serves as a community forum that encourages
and supports a mindful parenting dialogue and the sharing of mindful
parenting experiences.
In the spirit of developing a mindful
parenting community, we encourage you to
submit a mindful
parenting experience through verse, commentary, and imagery to share
with others. We believe that through our collective experience,
we can help each other develop a deeper and more meaningful mindful
parenting practice.

The Daily Sip:
Looking At
The Sky
There is much more to this world and our Earthly existence
than we can know. In much the same way, there is much more
to our child than we can know.
When you are
outdoors and look to the sky during daytime, you likely will see clouds,
the sun, and a stretch of sky that carries a beautiful hue reflecting
the atmospheric conditions of the moment. Aspects of the sky
are always changing while other aspects appear constant.
But,
there is so much more to what is out there than what you see.
The cosmos extends (and expands) forever in every direction.
The depth of both spaciousness and density is enormous. So it
is with your child.
I look at my child
And as I soften my gaze
I see the cosmos
Today, when you see your child (or listen to, or bring your thought
to your child) take note of the flesh and blood and the laughter
and tears that are evident. Then, breathing deeply and fully,
soften your gaze and observe your child more generally. Recite
the verse as you open awareness to the infinite within your child.
